Upcoming Seminars by based on my two books

Post by Rick_Wilson »

I will be running two seminars in September and October based on my two books”

One Day September 28, 2019: “Now You See it Now You Don’t: Using Empty Space for Self Defence” A seminar covering a universal martial principle that applies to any style or system and simply make everything work better.

Two Days October 26 & 27, 2019: “Watch Out for The Pointy End: Knife Defence Manual To Assist In Training Citizens, Law Enforcement and Security Personnel” I taught a stripped down one day version of this course at the AACPO 2017 Annual Conference.

WHY should you do my “Using Empty Space For Self Defence” seminar?

It will truly make everything you do work better. The very best self defence instructors use empty space even if they don’t know it, or teach it.

Have a look at the attached short video clip. The instructor does a perfect wrist weave take-down; however, also listen to what he says and watch what he does!

I am not including this to criticize the instructor he is good and his take-down was smooth and perfect; however, the instruction he gives is to punch the ground and, at that point, you would be pressing down into the Aggressor’s structure (not empty space) and it will only work if you are big enough or strong enough to overwhelm their structure.

LOOK at what he DOES.

He moves the arms locked in the wrist weave off the Aggressor’s structure and out into, and over, empty space. Then he drops the lock into empty space and the take-down works very well.

You need to always look at what empty space is being used.

Under ONE week to the first seminar on using empty space for self defence (September 28, 2019.)

Register NOW!

Here is what the back cover of my book says which will tell you a little more about this truly important martial principle:

Using Empty Space does not go force on force, therefore it can be the equalizer for size and strength.

Many who teach self defence are big strong men and they teach what has worked for them. There is often a lot of clashing of force on force but that only works when you can overpower the Aggressor.

The use of Empty Space in self defence can be particularly disconcerting for a big strong person whose strength has always allowed them to dominate. Using Empty Space means you do not challenge their strength, and therefore they do not get to use their strength against you.

This is not to say size and strength are not a factor, simply that this principle can help you work around those attributes. However, beware of the big strong person who has read this book and practiced using empty space, because their size and strength come right back into play.

There are many principles that can make you a better martial artist, better at self-defence, but I believe the principle of fighting in Empty Space is an exceptional one that can improve anyone's abilities.

There were a lot of techniques used in this book to demonstrate the use of empty space, but the techniques are only a delivery system. The important thing is what was being delivered: how and why to use empty space in self-defence.
