We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to become part of the Municipal Enforcement Team. Reporting to the Director of Emergency Services, the full time role of Community Peace Officer will be enforcing Municipal By-Laws and select Provincial Statutes. This position needs an individual who has the ability to effectively communicate with the public and liaise with the R.C.M.P and other agencies/municipalities as required. A professional conduct and appearance are required to establish and maintain good public relations.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
• Enforce Municipal By-Law and Provincial Statutes Complete and submit reports into Report Exec
• Conduct routine patrols
• Respond and investigate complaints
• Enforce animal control bylaws and transport stray/impounded animals
• Assist other emergency service departments within the scope of your authorities
• Maintain patrol vehicle and assigned equipment
• Any task as directed by the Director of Emergency Services

The ideal candidate will have the following:
• A post secondary education in law enforcement.
• Minimum three years’ experience as a Community Peace Officer Level 1, Police Officer, or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must meet minimum criteria required to obtain an appointment as Community Peace Officer Level 1 through Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Department.
• Current and valid physical abilities test (PARE, COPAT) within the past 6 months.
• Ability to pass an enhanced criminal record check.
• Current Use of Force certification (Baton/OC Spray).
• Radar/Lidar training.
• Weights and Dimensions training.
• Emergency Vehicle Operations Course.

As a condition of employment, the candidate must provide a current (or would be able to produce) an enhanced criminal record check, valid Class 5 Drivers license and a clean drivers abstract.

This position will also incorporate shift work, including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Athabasca County offers a competitive salary ($74,479 - $87,130) and a comprehensive benefits package which includes the Local Authorities Pension Plan and Health and Wellness benefits.
