Position Overview

Our Community Peace Officers serve the community and visitors through highly positive outreach and enforcement activities throughout the community. As part of a professional, fun and dedicated team, you are tasked with building strong relationships throughout the community, developing respect and rapport with the diverse visitors and residents through positive interactions. Keeping customer service and safety as the # 1 priorities you will implement positive ticketing initiatives and participate in public education drives, while also working collaboratively with other Town departments to increase understanding and adherence to community bylaws. Key activities will align with top council priorities such as; troubleshooting downtown parking congestion, reducing human and wildlife conflict and reducing, understanding and mitigating concerns in our growing Vanlife community. Patience, respect, confidentiality and discretion are a significant part of this job, as well as the ability to represent our organization in a positive manner at all times with customer service, outreach and education foremost in mind. This is a full time, permanent position with daytime, evening and weekend hours required.

Attributes: This is the perfect job for someone who wants to make a difference in our community through developing their exceptional conflict resolution, negation and communication skills. You must love working outdoors throughout the year, be interested in getting to know all facets of the Canmore community, be confident handling dogs, cats and have the ability to handle conflict in a positive, professional and productive manner. The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License, provide a sound driving record and clear criminal record check, and possess the physical ability and keen interest to conduct multi-hour foot and bike patrols. In addition, you must have strong written and verbal skills, conflict resolution training/experience, and intermediate level computer skills and possess a high attention to detail. To be successful in this role, you must be comfortable working alone while conducting patrols and completing other duties. Previous enforcement related experience and CPO designation is preferred.
